This blog is a culmination of my work searching the internet and sifting through all the bullshit music out there in order to hopefully find you some delightful gems. This archive will reflect music that I enjoy or I find unique. Look around and have a taste, I hope you will enjoy the collection as much as I do.

Secret Stash #6 - Maktub
Maktub is an oldie that I have discovered recently. I came across them because the comedy of Reggie Watts who is also the lead singer. I saw Reggie Watts a little over a year ago at Sasquatch Music Festival in George, Washington and I was an instant fan. His ability to capture a crowd of drunken festival bros who are only the comedy tent because they are overheating in the sun, and make them pay attention and laugh, is truly an amazing skill. The show was a musical and hilarious experience. It is no surprise that Reggie's band Maktub based out of Seattle, is equally enjoyable.

NEW OVERKWERK DAY!
It has been way too long since I have last posted anything on this blog and I apologize for anyone who is actually following along. I have been very busy with school and I have also been spending a lot more time on my own music. Hopefully I can finish some tracks to post on here soon. Anyway, what better way to restart the blog than with a brand new track from one of my unknown favorites OVERWERK!

Worst Song Best Video #1
Starting a new theme for videos! Worst Song Best Video! Adding a little humor and sex appeal to the blog in a desperate attempt to attract more viewers. Just watch and you will understand the concept.
Video of the day #10
Talk about bringing back motown. Our music these days has been severely lacking soul. Good thing Mayer Hawthorne is making up for a big chunk of it. Damn whitey got soul.

Video of the Day #9
This one was brought to my attention by Crizzly a while back. I actually first heard it when he dropped it at Summer Wonderland. I usually don't like these goofy-white-guy rapping/dubstep combos, but this song is a killer to bust out at any party. Plus I recently discovered Crizzly is coming back to Hawaii for Digital Wonderland! So in celebration I present to you: Cut Throat by Figure & Whiskey Pete. All of the info on them can be found in the details of the video.

All I Could Do Was Cry
Definitely a huge influence in Adele's music. A huge influence in the music of many others as well. Rest peacefully Etta.

Overwerk
Becoming more and more of an Overwerk fan every day. Edmond Huszar is the mastermind behind this addicting sound. I cannot believe his music has not caught on recently with the electronic music community. In my opinion his debut album the Nth should be destroying beatport servers. Maybe its because he's from Canada. Either way this track will get ya buzzin.

Le Castle Vania - The Light
As you already know, I have a deep love for the funky bass of Le Castle Vania. He just released his newest single "The Light" minutes ago and it did not disappoint. Here it is fresh out the oven.

Daft Punk Origins
After a long break and hiatus from the blog, I am back from Olympia and settled into the Hawaiian lifestyle once more. I have decided to spring back into things with something I have been pondering for a while, and something which seems to be a bit of an internet craze. That is, the songs that Daft Punk sampled. When listening to the addicting dance beats of Daft Punk, many fail to consider that these were originally amazing funk tracks. As you listen to this you will recognize a quite familiar sound.
I have absolutely no problem with sampling. In my opinion it is taking art and making new art out of it. In the same way that a person might take a picture of a mural, or make a collage. I don't really see what all the fuss is about. Reproduction of everything in new forms is a natural adaptation of our technologically advanced culture. Denying it is unnecessarily frustrating because it cannot and will not be stopped. However, I do believe that when creating sampled tracks or any other works of art that twist pieces of an original, there should be a considerable amount of effort to make the new piece have originality. Daft Punk has many songs which are beautifully sampled and clearly took a lot of work. This following track makes me really dislike Daft Punk's Robot Rock. It is almost an identical copy, but still worse. In this case I much prefer the original and think Daft Punk's version is quite the rip off. As one youtube commenter put it "this was the dark day for daft punk".
Don't get me wrong. I still love Daft Punk. I recognize and appreciate what they have done for all electronic genres. Perhaps sampling has come a long way since their prime and people are becoming a bit more creative with it. It is fun to listen to both the original and the punked. What do you think?
